The contents of this folder represents the various sub-menus seen in the NetFinder interface under the Tools menu, under the Automation Components section. In fact, when you use the command "Organize Automation Components" you will be shown the Automator folder in the Finder as seen in the figure below.
For a detailed explanation of the different purposes of the sub-folders in the Automator folder, please refer to the NetFinder Automation Components section of the manual.
The cache of directory listings of remote servers, which is only applicable if the user has enabled this setting in the preferences window, are all stored here. Deleting the contents of this folder is the same as clicking the "Clear Cache Now" button in the Listing Preferences pane in the NetFinder Preferences Window.
For performance reasons, NetFinder occasionally caches the DNS results (word based server name like ftp.hostname.com mappings to IP addresses like 123.123.123.123). Deleting this file will not harm NetFinder in any way.
Due to the many variants of FTP listings out there in the world, NetFinder has a plugin like mechanism to allow you to adopt a new listing format which NetFinder previously was unable to support. It is rare you will need to create/use one of these. These plugins can be created by the support team of NetFinder or by your IT administrators.
This item contains all the various metadata associated with your windows and list items, including things like label, comments, window position and size. If you value your metadata, it may be an idea to backup this item. This item should be OSX 10.5 Time Machine friendly, in that when you update a single items metadata, you will not be required to backup a huge database of everything else.
With an advanced mirroring/syncing capability comes additional data to manage. Certain combinations of mirroring configurations will require NetFinder to cache data thus allowing the mirror operation to work as expected. If the data in this folder is lost for whatever reason, all that happens is that you will be required to transfer a whole bunch of files and folders which you may not need to transfer again.
NetFinder has a number of scripting capabilities, including AppleScript, Ruby and ICI. This modules folder is specifically for the ICI scripting engine in NetFinder. It allows for the ability to extend the capabilities of the ICI script engine by adding modules (plugins) into this folder.
This folder represents the contents in the Script Menu in NetFinder (possibly seen as a Script-like icon). It can contain all kinds of script, including ICI scripts, Ruby scripts and AppleScript applications. NetFinder will try its best to determine the type of file you place in there and execute it appropriately.
Tip: Items in this folder can be assigned a sequence of characters in the filename which will define a keyboard shortcut for the item when it is loaded into the application. This makes it really easy to execute scripts which you often use with a single keystroke. For more details see the Command Key Shortcuts setup section.
This folder represents the contents in the Shortcuts Menu in NetFinder. Putting it simply you can put anything and everything in this folder. Including applications, aliases to applications, files, folders, scripts, NetFinder bookmark files, NetFinder bookmark lists, Mirror lists, Web Browser bookmarks. There is no limit to what you can add. NetFinder will try its best to determine the type of file you place in there and open it appropriately.
Tip: Items in this folder can be assigned a sequence of characters in the filename which will define a keyboard shortcut for the item when it is loaded into the application. This makes it really easy to select an often used shortcut in the menu with a single keystroke. For more details see the Command Key Shortcuts setup section.
When NetFinder is launched, it will open each of the items in this folder. So if you want to open a connection to a server, or open a bookmark list or maybe even start your favorite applications which you use when running NetFinder, you can place an alias of the item you are interested in or the item itself in this folder. One example may be to run a script of some kind to perform an action prior to when you start doing work in NetFinder, for instance establishing an internet connection or a VPN connection or ensuring you have various servers mounted before you start a mirroring operation in NetFinder.
This file contains a list of server names which you recently entered via the New Connection window. As you may have already noticed, as you type in a server name, if you have previously gone there, NetFinder will complete the server name it thinks you may be interested in. This can save lots of time typing something which you enter regularly. If this file is deleted for whatever reason, then you simply no longer have NetFinder offering you suggestions when you next launch the application.
